FM Managers Celebrate World FM Day

 

FACILITIES MANAGERS WORLDWIDE CELEBRATE THE 1st  WORLD FM DAY – AUGUST 28, 2009

 Friday 28th August 2009, was the first ever World FM Day. Global FM member Organizations on the different continent--Africa, Australia, Europe, North America -- are celebrated World FM Day by organizing luncheons, seminars, and workshops and other activities to celebrate and promote facilities management. In designating today as the first World FM Day. The purpose of the day is to encourage all those within the FM industry to organise a special activity to take place on the day is to draw attention to the aims, objective, and progress of the facilities management profession around the world, highlight the valuable contribution good facilities management profession around the world, highlight the valuable contribution of good facilities management has made and is making to sustainable global communities; productive, safe, healthy and secure work environments; and local and global economies, give worldwide coverage to the ideals of facilities management, not only within the profession and industry, but also to government and the general public. When the event was announced in the spring, Global FM Chairman Steve Gladwin, said, "I am very proud that we will celebrate the first World FM Day this August with our friends across the globe, and it is a great sign of how Global FM contributes to advancing facilities management . It will be an exciting day for Global and the FM community, because we have the opportunity to showcase in various locations that facilities management is a critical, strategies buiness discipline, making a real contribution to the success of organization."

Individual Events, Common Goal

The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA Australia), FM-ARENA, the Hungarian Facility Management Society (HFMS), the International Facility

Management Association (IFMA), and the South African Facilities Management Association(SAFMA) have planned public events to mark this first World FM Day.

In the U.S., IFMA invites its members and facility professionals in the international community to log into the

IFMA Twitter site to share unique aspects of FM in their country and discuss global FM topics in IFMA’s first.Tweet World FM Day event. Follow the questions at http://twitter.com/IFMAor world fmday.NIGERIA

In Nigeria, the day was celebrated with a live TV Discussion programme initiated by the MD/CEO of Domme FM Ltd, Engr. MKO Balogun, on Television Continental, TVC, where he was a guest representing Facilities Management Professionals along with the Senior Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor of Public Affairs, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku,where the issue of maintenance cultute in Nigeria and the role of professionals in public, private and corporate infrastructure maintenance in Nigeria was discussed. The 1hr 45mins programme was held on Thursday, August 27 and saw callers from all over the state making contributions to the programme.

On the August 28, 2009, the D-day, Engr MKO Balogun, joined other FM professionals in an on-line discussion on Twitter, where questions on various FM Issues were raised and FM Professionals all over the world responded by making their own contributing to it. The session was organised by IFMA as her own way of marking the 1st World FM  Day.
